Why Do I Feel Cruise Fatigue by Day Three?
Cruise fatigue is REAL! Every time I hop on a cruise ship, by the third day I am feeling exhausting. Some feel cruise fatigue after the cruise. The excitement of embarking on a cruise can quickly turn into an overwhelming sense of exhaustion. On my first day of the cruise, I drop my luggage at the state room, and head up to the buffet ..like everyone else. With the attraction of endless variety in the buffet, it’s easy to find ourselves overeating at the buffet, indulging in one too many desserts. The abundance of food can be both a blessing and a curse.
Some couples, friends or families fly to Florida, California, and Texas to enjoy a cruise. Depending from where you are coming from, jet lag can add another layer to this fatigue, leaving us feeling overwhelmed as we try to adjust to new time zones while also attempting to enjoy our vacation. We also like to walk around the ship, as we attempt to explore the ship and soak in all its amenities, it can sometimes feel like an uphill battle trying to find my way around such a vast vessel. Navigating through different decks and lounges might leave us feeling more lost than relaxed.
Making Reservations
Making dining and show reservations can also contribute to this sense of overwhelm; trying not to miss out on any experiences while managing our time effectively is no small effort. And let’s not forget about the M U S T E R drill—an essential safety procedure that, while necessary, and mandatory adds another layer of activity during what should be relaxing days at sea. Learning how to navigate the cruise app may seem straightforward, but for some of us, it can feel like yet another task on an already busy itinerary.
In the middle of the excitement of a cruise, it’s natural to feel moments of overwhelm. When you find yourself on the verge of cruise fatigue, pause and embrace the essence of where you are—an incredible voyage with endless opportunities for joy and relaxation. Let the gentle sway of the ship remind you to slow down, breathe deeply, and savor every moment. To avoid cruise fatigue, pace yourself, plan rest breaks, and focus on a few key activities each day instead of trying to do it all.
I enjoy visiting the different ports, dining and shopping, evening shows, but cruises are not just about activities, but also about soaking in the beauty of life at sea. Release the pressure of doing it all and focus on being present. My best way of relaxation when cruising, is sitting in the balcony with my husband enjoying a glass of wine while mesmerized by the waves of the ocean, admiring god’s creation. Take comfort in the blessings of this journey, and allow yourself the grace to unwind, recharge, and fully enjoy the adventure. You deserve it!
